The church of Saint Andrew in Attica, with its immense proportions and imposing marble facing, offered an exceptional framework for the creation of mosaics inspired by the most glorious Byzantine period. The juxtaposition of gold tiles in the background and enamel tiles in the clothing is majestic while the expressiveness of the faces and the figures' plasticity is enhanced by the use of marble tesserae, precisely as these materials are synthesized in Byzantine mosaics.
